DEFENDING champion University of Santo Tomas seeks to book its second straight finals stint against a dangerous Adamson side Wednesday in the ‘Final Four’ of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Although the Tigresses swept their head-to-head showdown in the eliminations, the third-ranked Lady Falcons are still capable to pull some surprises and force a semis decider.

NATIONAL University may have fell short in its bid for a first ever ‘Final Four’ stint, but there is nothing to ashamed of with what the Lady Bulldogs performed this season.

NU made shortwork of University of the East, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, to cap its campaign on a bright note in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

FAR Eastern University survived a National University comeback to hammer out a 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 15-8 win Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

Despite the fact that there’s nothing at stake but pride, the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Bulldogs, who bounced back from a two-set deficit to force a deciding frame, battled it out as if there’s no tomorrow.

But FEU, starring Maica Morada with season-high 25 hits, held steadier in the fifth set to end a two-game losing skid and improve to 4-8 card in fifth place. Read the rest of this entry »

ATENEO and Adamson moved closer in nailing the two remaining semifinals slots by posting straight set victories Sunday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Peaking at the right time, the Lady Eagles extended their winning run to six games by blasting Far Eastern University, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19, while the Lady Falcons sent University of the Philippines crashing back to earth with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 victory.

Dzi Gervacio fired 15 hits while birthday girl Fille Cainglet had 10 points for the Lady Eagles.

Ateneo will next face University of the East, which will try to avenge its upset loss in the first round on Wednesday, and league-leading La Salle on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »
