’6-peat’ for the Lady Stags; Altas end 22-year title drought


SAN Sebastian College rallied from two sets down to escape with a 22-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-12 win over Letran and register a ‘six-peat’ in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
In the second game, Joax Joaquin sizzled with 17 markers with Jay dela Cruz had 12 hits as University of Perpetual Help System Dalta ended a 21-year title drought in the men’s division with a 22-25, 25-10, 25-16, 25-18 win over Arellano University.
“I’m happy that we won the championship which somehow ease the pain sa mga losses namin sa basketball and women’s volleyball,” said an elated Altas coach Sammy Acaylar, who won his sixth NCAA title. Read the rest of this entry »
Letran scores NCAA semis sweep
LETRAN completed a three-game semifinals sweep by nipping defending champion San Sebastian College, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-27, 15-5, in their finals preview Saturday in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.
Manel Carolino sizzled with 24 hits, including four service aces, while skipper Lalaine Villarin added 17 points, including three blocks, and Melissa Cu had 15 hits for the Lady Knights.

Letran, SSC-R near NCAA women finals
DEFENDING five-time champion San Sebastian College turned back first time semifinalist San Beda College, 25-12, 25-13, 25-18, at the restart of the semifinals of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Monday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.
Except for a Lionesses rally late in the third frame, the Lady Stags were dominating in the 48 minute match.

UPHSD, CSB near NCAA women’s finals
ROSSAN Fajardo unloaded a career-high 25 hits as College of Saint Benilde escaped with a come-from-behind 16-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-10 win over reigning five-time champion San Sebastian College at the start of the semifinals of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Monday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.
