LYCEUM formally sealed its entry in the Shakey’s V-League quarterfinals with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 decision of Far Eastern University in Group A action at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan Sunday. In the second game, Ateneo rebounded from a third set loss to outplay San Sebastian College, 25-13, 25-11, 24-26, 25-22, at and complete a four-game sweep of Group A matches. “A win is still a win.  The first and second set we played well but in the third set, nagkagulo-gulo,” said former star Charo Soriano, who is still unbeaten as a Lady Eagles coach. “We wanted to a commanding win (in straight sets) but we can only hope for the best.  I’m glad that the girls get back with their game in the fourth set,” she added. NATIONAL University rebounded from a stunning opening day loss to University of Perpetual Help System Dalta with a 20-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-23 victory over College of Saint Benilde Thursday in the Shakey’s V-League first conference at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Despite the win, which gave the Lady Bulldogs a 1-1 record in Group B, coach Francis Vicente was far from satisfied with the performance of his wards.

“They cannot communicate one another when it comes to getting the ball.  They tend to relax and I hope na maka-adjust pa ang mga girls,” said Vicente.

Cai Nepomuceno fired 18 hits while reinforcement Dindin Santiago added 16 points, including three blocks, for NU.

The Lady Bulldogs dealt a 18-25, 17-25, 17-25 setback to the Lady Altas last Sunday.

PLAYING like there’s no tomorrow, Thai import Jeng Bualee banged in 27 hits as San Sebastian College forced a finals decider by nipping defending champion University of Santo Tomas, 21-25, 25-16, 15-25, 25-20, 15-13, in the Shakey’s
V-League first conference Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Game 3 is set tomorrow at the same venue. “Gusto niya (Bualee) talagang manalo.  Kailangan talaga naming manalo
at ibinuhos nila ang lahat,” said Lady Stags mentor Roger Gorayeb. In her four finals stints for San Sebastian since 2006, Bualee could only end up as a ‘bridesmaid’.

Joy Benito, the tournament’s Most Improved Player, also stepped up for the Lady Stags by scoring 20 hits, including the match-winning kill. Guest player Suzanne Roces and rookie Dafna Robiños also delivered for San Sebastian by combining 23 points.
