SAN Sebastian College rallied from two sets down to escape with a 22-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-12 win over Letran and register a ‘six-peat’ in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Thursday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

In the second game, Joax Joaquin sizzled with 17 markers with Jay dela Cruz had 12 hits as University of Perpetual Help System Dalta ended a 21-year title drought in the men’s division with a 22-25, 25-10, 25-16, 25-18 win over Arellano University.

“I’m happy that we won the championship which somehow ease the pain sa mga losses namin sa basketball and women’s volleyball,” said an elated Altas coach Sammy Acaylar, who won his sixth NCAA title. Read the rest of this entry »

DEFENDING champion San Sebastian College bucked an error-filled showing to subdue Letran, 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, and moved closer in achieving a ‘six-peat’ in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament last night at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.

Letran, SSC-R near NCAA women finals

DEFENDING five-time champion San Sebastian College turned back first time semifinalist San Beda College, 25-12, 25-13, 25-18, at the restart of the semifinals of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Monday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.

Except for a Lionesses rally late in the third frame, the Lady Stags were dominating in the 48 minute match.

A hit by Janine Marciano allowed San Beda to move closer to 16-18 when Elaine Cruz starred in San Sebastian’s 7-2 run to seal the straight sets win. Read the rest of this entry »

NCAA men’s volley finals: UPHSD vs AU

ARELLANO University and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta forged a finals showdown after beating their respective foes Friday in the NCAA men’s volleyball tournament at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.

The Chiefs ended Letran’s three-year reign with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-23, win for a 2-0 record.

The Altas outlasted San Beda College, 18-25, 25-17 25-20, 25-21, to notch their second straight victory.

Chris Salvador and skipper John Lozada combined for 26 markers for Arellano, which is seeking to follow up its men’s beach volleyball crown conquest last September. Read the rest of this entry »

Perpetual lady spikers top elims

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta turned back Arellano University, 25-15, 25-15, 25-15, to emerge as the No. 1 team at the end of the elimination round of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Tuesday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.

In a battle of unbeaten squad, the Chiefs completed an eight-game sweep of the men’s eliminations with a 25-22, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22 victory over the Altas.

By posting its seventh win in eight matches, Perpetual Help is on a three-way tie for the top spot along with defending champion San Sebastian College and College of Saint Benilde, a 25-6, 25-6, 25-7 winner over Mapua in the second distaff side match. Read the rest of this entry »
