Nestea beach volley: Twinkill for DLS-D

TANAUAN CITY – De La Salle University-Dasmariñas registered a double championship in the men’s and women’s division to lead the Boracay qualifiers at the end of Luzon leg of the 15th Nestea Beach Volleyball Championship Friday at the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities sand court here.

Jennifer Manzano and Giselle Bembo needed only 55 minutes to turn back University of Perpetual Help-Biñan, Laguna, 21-7, 21-17, in the women’s finals.

Joel Villanueva and Ran-Ran Abdilla then completed a twin kill for the Patriots with a 21-12, 21-18 win over Dagupan City’s University of Luzon in men’s championship. Read the rest of this entry »

Boracay Code 03 beach volley bash

IT’S all systems go for the holding of Boracay Code 03: Banana Peel’s Beach Volleyball Tournament slated on April 10-12 at the Bamboo Beach Resort and Restaurant beach front in Boracay.

The event, presented by Good Fellas and Banana Peel, is divided into two divisions – the Competitive (men’s and women’s) and Open (mixed).

The entrance fee for the Competitive division is P3,000, where the champion will take home P20,000 cash, while the second placer will claim P10,000.

In the Open division, entrance fee is pegged at P2,000, where the winner will bring home P5,500, while the runner-up will settle for the P3,500 prize.

The three-day event is supported by El Hombre Tequila, Bamboo Beach Resort and Restaurant, Grand Boracay Resort, Boracay Tropics, Asian Dragon Apartment, Urban Ninja, Ginger Rue, P&P Tattoo, Infinite Fashion, Lightworks Optoelectronics Philippines Inc., Eagle Photography, Bachelor’s Pad and Bardeli’s Deli and Liquor Mart along with media partners Clavel Magazine, Circuit Magazine, The Philippine Star, PCTV and Chinoy TV.

Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball hits 1st Leg for 2012

AFTER four fruitful years, Jennifer Manzano will be playing her last games for her school when the first leg of the 10th Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament gets under way on Thursday.
Manzano, a graduating criminology student at de La Salle University-Dasmarinas, will  team up with new partner Giselle Bembo when action begins at 9 a.m. at the sand courts of the de La Salle-Health and Science Institute campus in Dasmarinas, Cavite.
She will not only for the first leg crown with Bembo, but Manzano will also seek a slot in the Battle of Champions.
The 23-year old Manzano got that opportunity  after winning the first leg last year with Satchel Senupe, but they skipped the Battle of Champions due to other commitments.
Nine other experienced teams will stand in the way of Manzano and Bembo in this two-day spikefest which supported by Mikasa Balls, Speedo and the DLS-HIS campus.
“This is her last year. Supposed to be the first leg is for neophytes. But, there are many experienced players competing. So the matches will be very interesting,” said organizer Tisha Abundo during yesterday’s weekly PSA Forum at the Shakey’s Restaurant in UN Ave., Manila.
Iari Yongco teams up with La Salle-Dasmarinas teammate Mariel Desengano, while Letran’s Gena Andaya pairs up with Sarah Espelita, and the duo of Justyne Mae Tadeo is with Melissa Cu.
San Beda’s Janine Marciano is playing with Coline Malana as her partner, while San Beda 2’s Kim de la Vega is with Debbie Dultra.
Last year’s first leg winner Francislyn Cais sees action with Jessica Paron of University of the East, while Jimberly Dawn Dizon and Leuseth Dawis comprises UE-2.
University of the Philippines-1 is made up of Pauline Genido and Liezchel Tiu, and UP-2 is composed of Amanda Isada and Karen del Rosario.

DLSU wins 7th UAAP crown

CHA Cruz fired 12 points in her final game for La Salle, which clipped Ateneo, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13, and clinch its second straight title in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Far Eastern University copped its first men’s championship in four years by dethroning University of Santo Tomas, 25-27, 25-15, 19-25, 21-25, 15-13.

By ending the Growling Tigers’ four-year reign, the Tamaraws booked their league-leading 25th title. Read the rest of this entry »

Lady Eagles stun Lady Archers in UAAP finals opener

ATENEO shocked the back-to-back seeking La Salle, 23-25, 28-26, 25-23, 25-17, and seize the finals opener of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles used its impressive blocking and reception to end a nine-game losing skid to Lady Archers.

It was the first victory by Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb and the ‘Fab 5’ of Fille Cainglet, Jem Ferrer, Dzi Gervacio, Gretchen Ho and A Nacachi against La Salle since the 2008-09 season. Read the rest of this entry »
