ARELLANO University turned back Lyceum, 25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20, to remain in contention for the last semifinals berth in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Monday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Lady Chiefs improved to 4-3 slate, while the Lady Pirates suffered their fourth loss in eight matches which virtually eliminated them from the ‘Final Four’ race.
But Arellano has two tough opponents left to stay alive in its bid to advance to the next round. The Legarda-based spikers take on Letran on Friday and early semifinalist University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in the final day of eliminations on Monday.
Lyceum, the league’s newest team, battles San Beda College tomorrow.
In a battle of also-rans, College of Saint Benilde whipped Mapua, 25-5, 25-8, 25-9.
The Lady Blazers notched their second victory in eight starts, while the Lady Cardinals ended their season with no win to show in nine games.
In the men’s division, St. Benilde moved closer in claiming the last ‘Final Four’ berth with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 victory over Mapua for a 5-3 record, while titleholder Perpetual Help moved closer in completing a nine-game elimination sweep with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-9 win over San Sebastian College.
The Chiefs extended their unbeaten run to seven by blasting the Pirates, 28-26, 25-22, 25-21.
Arellano completed a sweep as its juniors team won over Lyceum, 25-14, 25-11, 25-19.(TJ)
