DESPITE a lackadaisical second set, Ateneo played just hard enough to remain in second place in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Eagles dealt University of the Philippines a sixth straight loss with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-12 win Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Ateneo hiked its record to 4-1 behind defending champion La Salle, which is unbeaten in six outings.
Earlier, University of Santo Tomas extended its winning run to four and seized solo hold of third spot, posting a 25-11, 25-21, 25-18 decision of National University.
“Masaya kami sa panalo, pero hindi ako satisfied sa second set. We have committed 12 unforced errors, we gave away a lot of easy points sa kalaban,” said Lady Eagles mentor Roger Gorayeb.
Ateneo stepped up its game in the third frame, where Fille Cainglet, Gretchen Ho and Dzi Gervacio delivered to complete the straight sets win.
Alyssa Valdez and Cainglet finished with 15 points apiece, while Ho and Gervacio chipped in seven hits apuece and libero Denden Lazaro had 11 digs for the Lady Eagles. Read the rest of this entry »
