Displaying nerves of steel down the stretch, the Tigresses survive a stiff Lady Tamaraws challenge before registering a 22-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-11 win and clinch the second semifinals bonus in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

LA Salle put an end to Ateneo’s seven-game winning run and a streak of 21 consecutive sets won to seize the first ‘Final Four’ incentive.

Using their height advantage to the hilt, the Lady Archers pummeled the Lady Eagles, 25-18, 25-11, 25-12, Sunday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

In the first match, defending champion University of Santo Tomas inched closer in clinching the remaining ‘twice-to-beat’ slot by drubbing Adamson, 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.

FAR Eastern University survived a National University comeback to hammer out a 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 15-8 win Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

Despite the fact that there’s nothing at stake but pride, the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Bulldogs, who bounced back from a two-set deficit to force a deciding frame, battled it out as if there’s no tomorrow.

But FEU, starring Maica Morada with season-high 25 hits, held steadier in the fifth set to end a two-game losing skid and improve to 4-8 card in fifth place. Read the rest of this entry »

RIZAL Technological University leaned on the imposing presence of six-foot spiker Janette Doria as it repeated over three-time finalist La Salle-Dasmarinas, 19-25, 25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 15-7, to win the 18th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) women’s volleyball title via a two-game sweep at its own home court – the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.

Doria’s aggressive plays at the frontline enabled the Lady Thunder to bounce back from first- and third-set losses and sweep their best-of-three title series with the Lady Patriots yesterday.

The Lady Thunder, playing without coach Edgar Barroga, scored their second finals win over the Lady Patriots following a 25-21, 25-21, 15-25, 26-24 triumph in Game 1 at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Paranaque last Monday. Read the rest of this entry »

ADAMSON bucked a sluggish third set performance to oust National University, 25-15, 25-16, 9-25, 25-19, and complete the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament ‘Final Four’ cast Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Jenna Ortega and Princess Listana shone in the fourth set to support the Lady Falcons’ power duo of Angela Benting and Pau Soriano en route in extending their winning run to three games.

The victory by Adamson gave Ateneo, a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 winner against University of the East in the second match, a free ticket to the semifinals.  League-leading La Salle (10-1) and defending champion University of Santo Tomas (8-3) have booked their ‘Final Four’ slots more than a week ago.
