DEFENDING champion University of Santo Tomas seeks to bounce back from a straight set loss to La Salle as it tackles Ateneo Saturday at the start of the second round of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Tigresses are aching to make another winning run against the Lady Eagles, who are trying to boost their ‘Final Four’ bid in the duel set at 4 p.m.
With the injuries hounding team captain Aiza Maizo, Maika Ortiz and Maru Banaticla, UST suffered a 20-25, 19-25, 12-25 beating of La Salle at the end of the first round last Wednesday.
The loss ended the Tigresses’ amazing sa 18-game losing streak which dates back from last season.
After a poor 1-4 start, the Lady Eagles bounced back with two straight wins.
Ateneo, which suffered a stunning five-set loss to University of the East early in the season, is coming off from a 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 win over Far Eastern University last Saturday.
National University and University of the Philippines collide in the first game at 2 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs are tied with the Lady Eagles in fourth place at 3-4, while the Lady Maroons is at 1-6 with the Lady Tamaraws at the bottom of the standings. (TJ)
