DEFENDING champion San Sebastian College barged into the win column, while Emilio Aguinaldo College posted its second straight victory in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament Friday.
The Lady Stags bucked a second set setback to turn back Arellano University, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17, while the Lady Generals subdued San Beda College, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20, at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.
San Sebastian, which is seeking a sixth straight title in the event sponsored by Mikasa and Asics, bounced back from a season-opening 25-20, 7-25, 19-25, 22-25 loss to University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.
The Lady Stags improved to 1-1 record to tie the Lioness in fifth place.
EAC, which suffered a straight sets defeat to College of Saint Benilde on opening day, moved up to fourth spot with a 2-1 mark.
Letran is currently on top with a 2-0 card. The Lady Blazers and the Lady Altas are not far behind with identical 1-0 slates.
The Lady Chiefs, on the other hand, are winless in two starts.
In men’s play, Arellano drubbed San Sebastian, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19, for a 2-0 card.
In the juniors division, the Staglets thumped the Baby Chiefs, 25-7, 25-5, 25-22, while the Brigadiers defeated the Red Cubs, 25-16, 25-13, 25-21. (TJ)
