THE Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball tournament returns to the scenic island of Palawan as it hosts the second leg of the annual meet for the year 2010 this weekend in Baybay, Puerto Princesa.
Ten 10 teams are seeing action in the April 16-17 event including two local squads from the host province.
Ateneo, winner of the first leg held at the De La Salle-Health Sciences Institute campus in Dasmarinas, Cavite, has another team entered in the tournament in its bid to score a back-to-back.
But standing on the way of the Lady Eagles, who will be represented by Sharah So and Khryzette Onishi, are equally tough entries from University of the East, Letran, De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and newcomer San Beda.
The Lady Patriots even assembled no less than three teams as they go all-out in thwarting the title campaign of their long-time school rival.
“Maybe this time, we’ll be able to win the leg title,” said Jennifer Manzano of DLSU-Dasma in the weekly PSA Forum Tuesday at Shakey’s in U.N. Ave,Manzano is teaming up with April Krizia Almaden, while the two other teams from DLSU-Dasma has Jeushl Wensh Tiu and Regina Anne Tungol and Precious Grace Abano and Aileen Abuel, who were also present during the session sponsored by Outlast Battery, PAGCOR, Shakey’s and Accel.
Letran has two entries in Gena Andaya and Marinelle Carolino and Marie Rose Burce and Justyne Mae Tadeo, while Jimberly Dawn Dizon and Aimee DeLa Pena banner the University of the East side.
San Beda is headed by the rookie pair of Coline Malana and Janine Nicole Marciano, both of whom expressed that they are simply aiming for the experience of playing in the meet also presented by Mikasa and Speedo.
“Since this is our first time, we don’t expect much. We want to enjoy first our participation,” said Marciano.
Joining the lovely ladies in the forum were organizer Tisha Abundo, the former PSC commissioner and one-time national team volleyball player, and Cesar Sergio, DLSU-Dasma sports director.
Abundo conveyed her heartfelt thanks to the city government of Palawan under mayor Edward Hagedorn for hosting another leg of the Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball tournament.
The winner and runner-up of the leg will join Ateneo and Philippine Christian University- Dasmarinas in the Petron Volleyball Battle of Champions late this year.
